LAUREL CEMETERY, Breathitt County, Kentucky Patricia Lindsay Clemons - LndsayRose@aol.com These cemetery stones were copied in 1962 by Patricia Lindsay Clemons and Marie Gilbert Linsay. This is one of the oldest cemataries in this area . It is located on a wood covered (in 1962) hill on the South Fork of the Quick Sand River. It was not too far from the graveled road but it is quite a climb to get to. Those interested in surname Clemons be advised that this is the burial place of Benjimin Clemons born in Virginia in 1792-94. Benjimin and his father Francis were the first Clemons' ( the name was Clement before they came to Ky) in The Breathitt County area. They settled on the So. Fork of the Quicksand River and sat in the same place while the states and counties changed around them. In the families of this area you may find father and son born in different counties yet they lived in the very same house on the very same land. Perry , Floyd, Morgan, McGoffin and Breathitt Counties are among the counties that have occupied this area.
