Leadingham (Peter & Sarah Hamilton) Cemetery, Carter Co., KY 1998 by Paul Leadingham Leadingham@aol.com Submitted by PAUL LEADINGHAM OF 201 EAST 8TH STREET FREDERICK, MD. 21701. PHONE 301-663-4409 301-663-4409 . I WILL HELP WITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE FAMILIES MEMBERS BURIED IN THE LEADINGHAM CEMETERY. Directions: Directions from Grayson, Carter CO., KY. Take route 7 south out of Grayson for 7 miles to just before the Grayson Lake Dam. Turn left on State Route 1496, and go about 4-1/2 miles and turn right on State Route 1122 (known as Little Fork Creek Road.. Go about a mile and a half on route 1122 and just past the white Baptist church look for a farm gate going up the hill to the right. (the last time I was there last summer, the gate and cemetery was marked by a wood sign- "Leadingham Cemetery" on a wood post.) Turn right up the hill through the farm gate. Two hundred yards up the hill you will see the Levi Pennington cemetery on the left. Keep right at the Levi Pennington cemetery and go on up the hill for another quarter of a mile or so to the top of the hill to the Leadingham Cemetery (there is no sign at the cemetery.). The gravel road is on private property and maintained by the county. Make sure the gate at the bottom of the hill is closed at all times. Condition/Comments: There are about 60 or so graves in the middle of the cemetery marked by field stones at the head and foot, but no markings. I believe two of these graves are of Peter and Sarah "Sally" Leadingham, who settled Leadingham Branch, which is the branch before you go up the hill to the cemetery. The flat ridge on top of the hill past the cemetery is called "Sturgill" after the original Sturgill homeplace and farm on the flat ridge next to the cemetery.
